    Yogo Azai's Description:
    Yogo Azai is a very forgettable man.  He is of average build and looks with black hair and brown eyes.  He could easily be lost in a crowd.  He does not wear much jewelry or anything that will show his station or position.  He wears a mask that covers his eyes and nose.  The mask is split in two at the center.  One half is blood red with a silver diamond around the eye.  The other half is white with a black diamond around the eye.

    Yogo Azai's Background:
    Yogo Azai was born to two Scorpion Shugenja of the Soshi Shugenja School.  Even as a young child Azai showed a deep connection to the Kami all around him.  He could be seen playing with air kami, making the air kami play tricks on his friends and family.  Yogo Azai was seen as a future leader of the Yogo Clan and being groomed for that position.  On his 22nd birthday he was betrothed to a Phoenix Clan Shugenja, Shiba Kalei.  It was his wedding night that he first set eyes on Shiba Kalei and he instantly fell in love.  Azai and Kalei had a good couple of years together.  Kalei seemed to enjoy all the attention that Azai gave to her and he seemed to grow into his destiny as he started to lead more parts of his Families holdings.  It was on their third wedding anniversity that Kalei created a beautiful tsangusuri with the symbol of his family and her family entwined.  Kalei was then called back to the Asahina Shugenja School for training and to meet with the head of the school.  Kalei also took this time to visit her family in the phoenix lands.

    Azai sent her letters everyday wishing her a speedy return.  After 4 months of travel Kalei was back but seemed different.  She seemed more distant and like something was bothering her.  She said that it was just that her mother was dying and Azai took her at her word.  Kalei did become more interest in Azai's work and he shared with her all that he was doing.  This went on for 5 months and the Scorpion Clan started to notice that they were getting out positioned in the courts all the time.  The Crane and the Phoenix almost knew what the Scorpion was wanting to do before the event even occurred.

    One of Azai's servants noticed some odd behavior of Kalei and informed Azai about it.  She seemed to be writing a lot more to her family and including other scrolls in the dispatches.  Azai used his connect to the Air Kami to have them watch her and to take one of the scrolls she was writing.  The Kami agreed and with a little push was able to push one of the scrolls to the ground where later at night Azai was able to retrieve it.  What he read in the scroll broke his heart in two.

    Kalei was sending the Phoenix Clan all the information that Azai was teaching her and showing her.  He knew that if the Scorpion Clan found out his life and her's would be forfeit.  He stopped allowing Kalei into his workspace when he was working and seemed to put up a wall.  Soon the Scorpion Clan started to see a patter and decided to come visit Yogo Azai's home.  Azai knew he would never be able to trick them so he decided it was time to end both his and his wife's life.  He prepared a powerful poison and slipped it into their sake for the night.

    At dinner he could see Kalei shifting a lot on the tatami mat and looking worried.  Finally after drinking some more sake she spoke.

    "My Love Azai I have wronged you.  I need to tell you know before the Scorpion Clan comes her and takes me away.  My family… no my former family has been forcing me to spy on the Scorpion Clan.  They had made a deal with the Crane and took my parents and sister hostage.  I had to do this or they would of destroyed them and cast out my sister as a ronin.  I was weak.  I was scared.  I have shamed you."

    With that Kalei bows low to Azai and offers her life to him.  Tears fall down Azai's cheeks as he looks on his love.  He moves over to her and says, "I would of protected you my love.  I will protect you now and in death.  Let us drink to our new life."

    Kalei and Azai drink deeply of the poisoned sake and both fall into the dreamless sleep of death… Well one of them anyways.

    Azai appeared in a dream with a voice calling to him.  The voice said that it was not his time.  That he needed to clear his wife's soul of this dishonor and let her rest in peace.  Azai then felt a kiss on his lips just before his body rejects the poison and expels it.  Azai wakes up to his dead love and one of his servants looking at him.  His servant with a sneer says, "Ah so she told you.  No matter we got all we needed from you.  Thanks to you we will soon be controlling the Scorpion.  Now to deal with you."

    The servant attacks Azai but the Air Kami come to his aid and cause a tempest of air blast the servant back into the wall.  The force is so powerful that it instantly kills the man but now it leaves Azai with no way to know who did this to his wife.

    The Scorpion Clan listens to Azai words and about the spy in his house (the one he killed).  The Scorpion Clan striped Azai of his title and rank but let him live for now.  Azai took his leave and started his own crusade to find who was controlling his wife and find a way to destroy them.

    Years pass and all the trails that Azai has been following have led to dead ends (or more likely dead people).  Azai was very low and started to take poison regularly trying to kill himself but Jurojin would not let him.  Finally Shosuro Tamiyo came to his aid.  Shosuro Tamiyo offered Yogo Azai a position in his entourage to help him in his Magistrate duties.  Yogo Azai's duty to Shosuro Tamiyo would be to test his food and drink for poison and to help with crimes that involved mysterious ways of death.  Since Tamiyo knew Azai was OK with touching dead people he knew that this would be a good job for him.

    Azai took Tamiyo up on the position and has been traveling with Tamiyo helping him solve crimes and disputes in the area.  While he is doing this he is also looking for more clues to his wife's mystery and maybe find a way to let him leave this cursed life to be with her again.  Azai does not know that he is also being hunted at the same time.  Kalei's sister, Shiba Hikrai, is looking to blame Azai for Kalei's death and wants to destroy Azai.  But maybe she is the key to the whole mystery…

    9. Bushido is good in theory but not useful in practice.  He uses Bushido only when it helps him.  He normally does the dirty work that Bushido looks down on, but needed for the rest of Rokugan to successfully run.

    10. He is very dedicated to the Scorpion Clan but ever since the situation with his wife he has been a little more distant to the clan.  He is afraid they might learn what happened and kill him for it.

    Azai hates Phoenix Shugenja and people that use women to do their dirty work.

    15. He tends to bite his lower lip when he is thinking about doing something that is below his station, or is caught in a lie he cannot escape.

    16. When he was with his wife he could be seen always with a smile on his face and started to push off his duties to spend more time with her.  Since her death he has moments of great depression but overall seems almost drained of most emotions.

    17. Azai would chastise him and then demand recompense.  Loyalty to Yogo Azai is demanded at all times.

    23. It is said that the spirit of his wife haunts him and drives him to find who was controlling her.  He is heard most nights crying out her name in his sleep.  Also Shiba Hikari thinks that Yogo Azai killed her sister and is trying to destroy him.
